Free Video Screen Capture Software Tool

by Aurelius Tjin on June 3, 2009 · 30 comments

Download your free copy of screen capture tool, Jing, from Techsmith’s website here

This is one of the coolest pieces of software I’ve come across this year, so far. It’s a screen capture software you’ll absolutely love. You’ll be able to record quick video tutorials for your clients, customers, collegues, friends and family, so you can demonstrate and explain your ideas quickly and easily.

Not only does it allow you to record videos, it also allows you to take screen shots and edit your screen shots with indicater arrows, texts and more.

If you work on the computer, then this is a tool you just have to have in your arsenal.

Download it today.  Click here

I’d love to hear from you! Don’t forget to leave your comments/feedback in the comments field.

Enjoy!  Looking forward to sharing more great tools and resources with you.

Hello Aurelius,

Great little video and yes Jing is an awesome tool.

I’ve been using Jing for about a year now and several months
ago Techsmith came out with a Pro version that is only $15
a year.

The Pro version, while yes it is not free, it is very close to it. The pro
version allows you to record in Hi-Def Mp4 instead of the SWF
and has a few additional features that the still very good free
version is lacking.

You can edit the Jing captures in Snagit as well as Camtasia. Lots
of cool things you can do with Jing and whether you get the free or
the pro version, you should have Jing on your computer.

Again Aurelius, thanks for this post.

Sincerely,
Steve Dougherty

Hey Aurelius,

I like yourself use Camtasia but this looks like a great piece of software for people that don’t want to spend the $300 for Camtasia. It’s a good way to start out and if they get serious about making videos they can get Camtasia at a later date.

Later,
Jeff Sargent

Thanks for sharing that, Aurelius.

Speaking of maximum storage capabilities, and for those that don’t want to go through the hassle of creating several accounts and passwords, they can upgrade you for a VERY reasonable price.

I’ve been using JING for almost a year now and have been able to solve customers service issues which would have been extremely difficult and boring to explain with plain text and the customer service guys have been VERY appreciative of seeing the trouble in video and consequently, solving the issue right away!

So thank Aurelius for this, guys and gals, because it works.

Great, Steve! I appreciate your input on the advantages of the Pro version. Pretty good deal for just $15 a year. I also use SnagIt. I don’t know what I’ll do without it!

Jeff, good tip there. Start with Jing and later advance to Camtasia Studio.

Xerge – great use there – using Jing to solve customer support issues. Appreciate your tip!

Thanks for your comments.

Not only does it do all the above but in the pro version you can also auto upload to your youtube account and screen captures can be uploaded to your flickr account. Be advised you are limited to a 5 minute video for each video you create. As stated there is a total storage limit but that can be increased by purchasing more storage.

Thanks for that note, Dan. The added features of the Pro version definitely sounds like something to consider. Techsmith sure know how to market :)

For those who haven’t opened Jing Pro in the past few days you should. It’s been updated. It NOW will export to Camtasia for editing. Jing just gets better and better…. Check it out.

Good Post Aurelius!

Good to know, Mike! Yes, even with the Free version, you can save it to your computer. It saves the video as a .SWF file.

Thank you Aurelius, even as a newbie, I can see the value of jing, and free??? wow. Getting started, figuring out a plan, is so hard for me, trying to focus on my next step, ugg, so many new offers and promises each day, all sounding so good. Wish there was a REAL plan out there.

Great post, Thanks

13 Aurelius Tjin June 3, 2009 at 4:27 pm

Ken, it’s good that you see the value in using Jing. You can provide quick training videos for whatever niche you’re in. You can record small 2-5 minute presentations on your topic.

Yea, I agree with you on the overwhelming amount of offers you see everyday. The best thing to do is to focus on one system/program at a time until you’re confident you’ve exhausted what the system had taught you. It’s how I succeeded faster. I stopped working on multiple projects at a time and just focused on one project.

You will never make things perfect, but you just have to get things going.

Aurelius -

I became aware of JING a couple of months ago,, but must say that I did not recognize this functionality. I appreciate your tutorial and will head back over to JING and see what else I missed.

Have a blessed day!

Hey Aurelius,

I’ve been using Jing for about a month now and I reckon its awesome. I started off using the free version but I also wanted to upload vids to Youtube and so I paid $15 for the Pro which enables me to put videos in MP4 format.

Great product and super easy to use. I’d highly recommend it.

One surprise is that its from the same guys that do Camtasia.. Good entry level product but its frustrating because you can’t simply upgrade to Camtasia which would be good.. and the UI is completely different.

Any, good informative post.

Cheers
Will

Jing is a great tool though it is with no editing features like Camtasia. To begin your screencasting, Jing project is a good option.

22 Aurelius Tjin June 4, 2009 at 8:13 am

Yes, Chris..that’s the only downside — there’s not editing feature.

23 Emmanuel Mba June 6, 2009 at 11:05 am

I love Jing and have been using it for a while. I have Camtasia as well but to get started, Jing is great.

I’ve tried a few other free screen capture software but none have matched Jing in my opinion.

Regards,

Karl
